Yes, you can have your "music fundamentals cake" and eat it, too!

Would you like to teach more music fundamentals but cannot do so because of lack of class time? You can do this using a series of individualized student learning packets. Students take these teaching aids home to study outside the classroom time.

In 1984, M.E.N.C. recognized Dr. Harris for his innovative "curriculum learning packets" that enabled choral directors to teach essential music fundamentals outside the classroom period.

Some of the advantages to using these learning packets are:

• Students can work at their own pace
• Students can do the work on their own schedules

Students Succeed and Become Better Musicians

Following study of the packet material, students takes a Study Test on the honor system to see how well they know the material. If they do well, they may take the Closure Test. If students do not do well, they can restudy what confused them and then also take the Closure Test for a grade.

Students invariably do well, receive a high grade, feel good about themselves, and become better musicians in class because they know more about what they are doing.

All this is accomplished outside of class so you have more rehearsal time to learn music for your next concert. Students do about one learning packet every three weeks. If you wish to move more slowly you can, or you can even leave out a packet if it is not needed for a certain choir.

Each learning packet is sold for $10.00, including the Study Test and the Closure Test. With the purchase of each packet, you can duplicate copies for students without infringing on the copyright. You may purchase all of the packets or only the packets that interest you most.
